Capital Projects

Canberra CBD Limited would like to leave a lasting legacy in the City so as well as some temporary improvements such as Flowering baskets, fairy lights in trees and cleaning, the company has embarked on a number of larger Capital Projects.

West Row Park – $500,000 upgrade

Canberra CBD Limited will carry out the refurbishment expected to start in September. West Row Park is a delightful spot – a pocket park – in the heart of the city, opposite the West Row restaurant/entertainment precinct and can easily be overlooked at present.West Row Park/ Capital Projects/ News & Events

The work will allow it to take its rightful place as part of the City Centre’s green space. When refurbished, the park will provide a calm, thoughtful space that reflects its centrepiece, the Inge King sculpture ‘Red and Blue’ which was added last year by the ACT Government.

The approximate $500,000 upgrade will include self-sustaining landscaping, seating, lighting and an improved staged area for the sculpture. The ACT Government also recognise the importance of the park and they are contributing $100,000 to the verge areas.

Caged Bin Enclosures

The bin enclosures would be similar to those erected in Hobart Place and are designed to centralise garbage collection services and provide a cleaner solution for many of the Cities laneways. Stage one of this project has been to develop the concept, identify the locations, preliminary costs, Government requirements and commitment from the property owners to proceed.

Four locations have been determined for the initial roll out:

  • Tocumwal Lane behind Centrepoint, joining Bunda Street with Petrie Plaza
  • Baileys Corner Service courtyard
  • Riverside Lane accessed off Ainslie Place
  • Hillside Lane accessed off Akuna Street

Riverside Lane is the first area to be constructed and David Clarke Architects have been  engaged to draw up the plans and organise approval from the ACT Government.

All property owners and property managers surrounding Riverside Lane have been involved in the process and all have agreed to the caged bin enclosure and to the consolidation of the hoppers.

Ros Malouf of Waste Programs has also been involved in the consultation process conducting an audit of the waste procedures in Riverside Lane determining the number of bins required to be housed by the bin enclosure will be reduced from 10 to 3.  Ros has also consulted with the waste disposal companies and will continue to liaise with them as part of the Office/Business Smart program with all of the tenants in the buildings.

Along with the Caged Bin enclosures Canberra CBD Limited are planning the next major mural work to be installed in Riverside Lane.
