As of 1 January 2018, the management of the City Centre Marketing and Improvements Levy transferred from In The City Canberra to the City Renewal Authority. Views expressed in these articles may not reflect the views of the Authority.
People wanting to call the CBD home are getting more choice. A quick search of all homes shows there are currently about 38 new apartments for sale in and nearby the CBD. Adding 329 apartments recently approved for construction on the former public housing block on the corner of Ainslie Avenue and Currong Street, Canberra City will make a big difference. The area will include restaurants, retail space, a childcare centre and three levels of basement parking.
In The City Canberra CEO Jane Easthope said, “we are excited about more people living and working in the CBD. The addition of the childcare centre is great news, as it reflects an acknowledgement from the Government over the need to provide central amenities for families working in the city.”
“I’m also really excited by what the planned development will mean for existing structures and community meeting places such as Gorman House. I love the fact that it is becoming a connected part of the family of cultural attractions in the city”, Jane said.
As for what this means for local investment, Jane said “investor confidence is at a 10-year high; and with existing and future plans to develop London Circuit, parts of Northbourne Avenue, Cooyong Street and Lonsdale Street in Braddon, it’s only set to continue.”
The development application will soon be available for public comment on the ACT government’s planning website.
