Thanks to the ACT Government, Canberrans will be able to enjoy outdoor bar service!

Canberra’s CBD is set to benefit after changes have been made to regulations which now allow restaurants and live venues to service drinks outside.  Outdoor bar service is already a popular option in other cities around Australia and overseas and now applications will be considered for Canberra venues to establish an outdoor bar.

The changes around outdoor bars will provide more enjoyments for patrons, increase customer numbers as well as improve Canberra’s overall street life. It will help bring more customers to businesses in the city and help boost Canberra’s reputation.

One obvious concern that most of us will be thinking about is the colder weather that Canberra brings. Many CBD restaurants already provide heaters for customers, meaning the new outdoor bars could operate in the colder months of Canberra as well as the warmer months.

The ACT government have said “they are looking to further encourage Canberra’s hospitality sector, to innovate and to deliver to the people of Canberra, and to visitors, an enhanced experiences by way of lessening regulations.”  An approval for an outdoor bar could take as little as 10 days.
