Groovin’ in the City

1 September – 25 February 2010

In conjunction with the Chief Ministers Department, Canberra CBD Limited presents lunch time entertainment at locations around the City.  This year’s lineup features exciting themes such as Disco Divas, Magic & Illusions, String Fling, Living Statues, Cafe Theatre and Sand Sculpture.  See our homepage for links to details on our Photographic Competition.

Floriade in the City

11 September – 10 October 2010

The City comes alive in Spring, Canberra CBD Limited will again install the large tulips to promote Floriade, along with banners to add some colour around the City.   Floriade this year celebrates the theme of Imagination.  Musical guests include Katie Noonan and the Captains, along with Felicity Urquhart and daily lunchtime concerts by the ANU School of Music.  As usual, you will be enchanted by street performers, dancers and comedians, and the giant 35 metre ferris wheel, providing unbeatable views across the city. 

The popular NightFest is back in 2010, for five nights only from 22-26 September.  Features include live music at the Butterfly Lounge, night markets, comedy acts and outdoor film screenings as well as the breathtaking night lighting.  View our link to the Floriade website  for program information.

Canberra International Film Festival

27 October – 7 November 2010

Canberra CBD Limited is pleased to once again announce its sponsorship of the 14th annual Canberra International Film Festival. The festival has built a reputation as the premier film event in the Canberra region, and this year will showcase 50 films from more than 25 countries, screened over 12 days. Films will be shown at Dendy Cinemas, Canberra Centre and Arc Cinema at the National Film and Sound Archive.The Festival celebrates a full 12-page program, which include the opportunity for audiences and film students to meet and learn from some of the industry’s most gifted professionals. Canberra Nara Candle Festival

Canberra has enjoyed a 17-year bond with Nara in Japan, our sister city, and this year marks the 1300th anniversary of the ancient former Japanese capital.  The festival will present delicious Japanese cuisine, entertainment and over 2000 lit candles.  Click here for further information.

Christmas in the City

Lighting of the Christmas Tree – 3 December 2010

Carols can be heard in various locations around the City,  to accompany the Christmas fairy lights in trees and the hanging flower baskets   during Christmas time.  The lighting of the Xmas-lights-3998Christmas Tree and Christmas Concert mark the start of the Christmas season in the City. Canberra CBD Limited has added  1000’s more fairy lights  in trees in Petrie Plaza, Ainslie Avenue and  City Walk lights.

New Year’s Eve in the City

Canberra’s city centre is the place to party and welcome in The New Year. A huge New Year’s Eve is guaranteed,  two sites in Civic play host to a packed program of entertainment, including a family concert in Civic Square, a dance party in Garema Place, and two dazzling fireworks displays at 9pm and midnight.

Summernats

A series of events are held along Lonsdale Street in Braddon as part of Summernats.  Program details are available at their website.

Multicultural Festival

The National Multicultural Festival is on in the City in February. This is your chance to enjoy culture, dance, food and fun from all over the world, right here in Canberra.  The city centre will turn into a vibrant multi cultural melting pot, jam-packed with free events all week.
