Canberra’s biggest celebration of Christmas starts tomorrow, as Aussie rock legend Shannon Noll takes the stage at the Christmas in the City Concert. Alongside the concert will be the inaugural Burgers, BBQ and Beer Markets, the first of four themed Christmas Food Markets taking place in the leadup to Christmas.

There’s an abundance of exciting events happening over the weekend at Christmas in the City. We’ve collated them here to help you plan your weekend accordingly!

If you’re in the City on Friday night and wondering what that delicious smell is, aim yourself towards City Walk and Civic Square, because the Burgers, BBQ and Beer Markets start sizzling from 5pm.

At 6pm, most of the rain should have cleared up as the free Christmas in the City Concert kicks off. This is one not to miss, featuring an all-star line-up headlined by Aussie Rock legend Shannon Noll. Join the crowd in the countdown as ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr officially lights the Christmas Tree star, and keep an eye out for Santa as he makes an appearance!

The Burgers, BBQ and Beer Markets continue on Saturday from 12pm until 10pm. Come along for a delicious Grease Monkey burger, or try a succulent Beef Rib Plate from Regulators BBQ. With warm temperatures forecast, cool off with a drink from local favourites Bentspoke Brewing Co, and enjoy live music by Nick Rigby and Nico Lupo.

Take the kids, your friends or your pets (or all three) along to get a photo with Santa in front of the iconic Canberra Christmas Tree between 4pm and 9pm. All proceeds from the Santa photos go directly to support Red Nose.

The second themed Christmas Food Markets kick off on Sunday at the Street Food Markets from 12pm until 10pm. Enjoy delicious street food favourites from stallholders such as Tikka Stand and live music by Hamish Lardi, Sinuhe Pachenco and Mitch Thompson.

The weather will be cooler and perfect to come and watch 34 adorable Dachshunds race their way down City Walk from 7pm. There will be costumes and prizes for the best dressed sausage. Sounds like the perfect way to spend a Sunday night!

Entry into the Christmas Food and Handcraft Markets will be via cash or tap and go donation to Red Nose and a small amount to the organisers.
