Wrap up – The 2015 AHA ACT Hospitality Awards

The Australian Hotel Association (AHA) last night held the 2015 ACT Hospitality awards at the National Convention Centre. A record number of hotels, bars and nightclubs were nominated over more than 30 award categories, highlighting Canberra’s best licensed venues.

Restaurants, bars and nightclubs throughout the city were strongly represented, with establishments in Braddon, New Acton and the CBD picking up awards.

Capitol Bar and Grill (part of QT Canberra) were recognised with two awards; The Best Prestigious Restaurant and The Best Wine List. Based on a concept created by acclaimed Australian restauranteur Robert Marchetti, Creative Food Director of QT Hotels, Capitol Bar & Grill will ensure you have your fill of fine wine and food offerings. Capitol Bar & Grill is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days, with the bar open from 12 noon.

Bentspoke Brewery, of 38 Mort Street, was awarded with the Best New/Redeveloped Venue. Bentspoke is a microbrewery and taphouse created with a desire to provide a world-class craft beer experience in the heart of Canberra.

Hopscotch, based on Lonsdale Street, and complete with an extensive beer garden and the largest whiskey menu in Canberra, was recognised with the Best Bar Presentation & Service and Best Pub Bistro awards. Hopscotch was also commended within the best/redeveloped venue category.

Knightsbridge Penthouse (Braddon) was recognised with The Award for Best Late Night Entertainment Venue. Also located on Mort Street, Knightsbridge is known for its extensive cocktail list, eclectic décor and wide variety of music over weekends.

Academy nightclub was awarded The Best Live Entertainment Venue Award. Located at 50 Bunda Street, Academy is open Thursday through to Saturday from 9pm till late, and provides an exciting dance music experience.

Monster Kitchen & Bar achieved the award for The Best Bar in a Hotel. Located on the Ground floor of Hotel Hotel, it is open from 6:30am – 1am each day, with an extensive breakfast menu and a combination of a bar menu and shared plated from 12pm.

The Best Cocktail Bar Award went to Molly for the second year in a row. With a set of coordinates as the only available tool to locate the bar, and a décor not dissimilar to what you would have expected to find in the early 1900’s, Molly provides a unique atmosphere for patrons. Molly is open from 4pm – Late Monday through Saturday.
